Pontus is a Malmö-based artist whose unique art has earned him scholarships, exhibitions and public commissions.
Pontus sculptures which are almost exclusively made from natural materials are soft and pliable, even if they sometimes seem to hide a kind of chaos within. His favorite material to use is wood and this in long thin pieces which he first soaks so he can bend them just as he wants it. The whole thing is a time consuming process, but when all the pieces have found themselves around each other and the creation is coated and / or painted the result is well worth the wait. We at NWW43 like to think that the warm and kind sculptures reflect Pontus mind just as many say that art reflects the artist inside. However his artistic career began far from sculptures. As Pontus himself tells it, he started to write graffiti and did this mainly because of the social connections this brought him. One thing led to another and inspired by artists he met along the way, he began to create art beyond the walls of the streets. You might find some of his graffiti past in his sculptures. Just as graffiti artist bends and stretch letters to create new shapes Pontus uses the same idea when he creates his works.
Pontus´s artistic career accelerated when he won the scholarship in conjunction with the exhibition of “Ungkonst” who showed some of his sculptures at Dunkers Culture in Helsingborg and Galleriet in Malmö. Pontus has also been assigned the task to create a public artwork in the form of a large outdoor sculpture for MKB and their new construction projects in Malmö.
